exercise and mental wellbeing

When faced with mental or emotional challenges in life, exercise can help you cope in a healthy way, instead of resorting to alcohol, drugs, or other negative behaviors that ultimately only make your symptoms worse. It relieves tension and stress, boosts physical and mental energy, and enhances well-being through the release of endorphins.

Different hypothesis about exercise:

---Nature and green spaces: beneficial on mood and sleep quality. Exercise is often recommended as a sleep aid for individuals with disturbed sleep (Caldwell et al, 2009).

Green spaces have been proven to increase intention behaviours to continue exercising outdoors, improved mood and continued mental wellbeing, and generates greater satisfaction than working out in a gym or home setting (Coon et al, 2011).

--- Socialising in exercise:

beneficial on increasing social interaction.  When the focus becomes more about socialising, the exercise part becomes secondary and will feel less like something you feel you ‘have to get over and done’ with - thus, increasing motivation and promotes mental wellbeing.
